The story of Pauley's kitty book hobby

I love cats. I also love the people who love cats. I truly believe that those who appreciate and accept feline personalities into their lives are special.

A while back, I started meeting other cat people whenever I wore a cat-themed shirt. I enjoyed that so much, that I now wear a cat shirt every time I leave my house.

The Artsy Factor

While all that was going on, I was trying my hand at different arts and crafts (see the “Artsy” link on the previous page), and I watched a number of videos on various subjects.

In the Fall of 2025, a video popped up on YouTube showing how to create a simple little notebook based on a 3M Post-it pad. After some experimenting, I modified the design a bit to accommodate a small pen, and started producing kitty themed books to gift to the cat people I meet. (Maybe you have received one.)

Some books

The results have been very exciting and the reactions I often receive are unexpected; big smiles, hugs, tears, kisses, “You made my day!” “I’ll never forget this.” Cat people are so happy to share cat stories, pictures, and their love for cats. It’s become much more than a hobby for me. I’m addicted to the interaction.

Immediate Use
When I gave a book to my friend Mike
he immediately put it to use!

In a strange way, this hobby is like a little business, encompassing much of what I enjoyed when I was working: research, design, production, etc. (with no boss or employees). And even though I would never take payment for the books, I see them as being very profitable – not in money, but in the feedback I receive. Joy is the currency.

Few things I’ve ever done in my life have resulted in the joy I am able to spread these days.

I always have at least a few books with me. In the cooler months, it’s no problem to put a few little books in my pockets. But as the weather warmed up, it was a challenge carrying books while wearing jeans and a t-shirt.

So, I designed the ideal book carrying pouch, and had a leather shop make it. It contains two books with pens and quickly clips on or off my belt, and is pretty much invisible under my shirt. It is perfect for a quick trip into a store.

While most of my books that I make have a kitty theme, I also create other books for special occasions and non-kitty people.

Here's one with Wizard of Oz prints. (I'm waiting to find a fan.)

Some information about the books

If you have a one of the books, I hope you are enjoying it. If the Post-it pad ever needs to be repaired or replaced, simply glue in another. Any white glue should work fine. (If you choose Elmer’s, use the “Glue-All”, not the “School Glue”.)

And note that the pen which was included is a cheapie, but it’s the smallest I could find. The clips tend to break if the pen is pulled from the book the wrong way. (If you see me, let me know and I'll give you replacement.)

My wonderful kitty, Peeka

If you look at the first picture of her below, you’ll see why we named her Peeka Boo.

We hadn’t had a cat for quite a while. But one March afternoon in 2021, I was sitting on my deck, looked over and saw that cutie looking at me. (I’m pretty sure we were thinking the same thing.) She cautiously started to eat the food put out for her, often peeking over the edge of the deck making sure it was safe. (Sometimes I could only see the tips of her ears. That was so cute.) It didn’t take long for her to move in.

Peeka was obvously not a feral cat. She must have either escaped from somewhere or was dropped off because she took to her new life style very quickly. We’ve become very close, and she has me wrapped around her little paw.

As I'm sure any cat fancier understands, I have quite a few pictures of Peeka. Here are just a few.

Peeka, first sighting.

A week or so later.

On the table
These days, she's usually close by
ready to help.

On my lap
At times, VERY close by,
ready to relax.
(I love it!)

And what is probably my best Peeka picture
is when I caught her looking at this book title
with great interest, then looking back at me.
What do you think she was thinking?

Genius Peeka
